I wonder if the brakes are  sticking on once you drive off and use them?

greg ive a mind to send you my old intact hub seal for you to eat sorry look at
im tellin you it turned on the shaft just like a crank seal
with no spinning centre i can see were its been turning on the stub axel
and it is intact no damage still fits on stub axel like a dream.
this fuckin tin seal that i was given does not fit over the last step before the back plate hence not being able to get the wheel bearing on properly
hence £200 worth of fuckin damage.
drove to bristol banwell seals fuckin hopeless
all i get is oooooooooo thats a big seal have not seen one like that before
very unusual tell me something i dont know the tossers.
im going to send you this seal to see if you can get one up there.
regards mr fuckin angry

if you do, make sure it is for the mk2 and make sure it is an ax6 though you could fit an ax8 too.

sorry to hear you're having grief Clive - I feel your pain (had plenty myself although not so much with axles, not yet anyway)

got a good AX6 axle here (Brighton) if you fancy a trip east
removed from my Mk2 S46 van (J-reg) during upgrade to RB75 - was on road and running fine just shy of 2 years ago
it seemed like a good idea at the time

open to offers
(happy to undercut those monkeys at Mirfield - £100 for a used headlamp anyone? - actually, based on their ebay prices, £200 for a complete axle sounds cheap!)

dunno why previous post appeared twice (with a time delay on second, curious) - maybe if I delete one, both will disappear?

yeap, good luck

reminds me of the time I had some braided brake flexi-hoses custom made and then again, when converted whole system to 1/4" - by time I went back for a second lot, prices of the M12 ends had gone up considerably - about a fiver shy of that figure you mentioned for 3 hoses and the ends aren't even stainless and have started to corrode already - truck hasn't even done a mile with them fitted

hope the axle is from this point forth, indestructable!

if the axel plays up after this chugg the whole lots going in the baler.
or ebay.
i like the truck but i cannot keep spending 100s of pounds on it
seals and bearings £300.
at the end of the day buiss is prity shit no buggers got any money.
i supose i was a twat buying something they have stopped makin spares for at the end of the day.
merc still make all the spares for all their trucks dont matter how old.
if i changed the axel because i use it to do big miles loaded some times i would have the hub seals go in a second hand axel in no time at all.
been here before with old truck spending shit loads of money and gettin no were.
bobs on his last chance,

my only worry now is i think ive cut off a pre seal that was ment to stop the oil spraying directly on to the main seal.
as said before this axel 4.6 ton has a hub seal that acts like a crank shaft seal.
its deff not a mechanical seal its got were marks were its been turning on the stub shaft and just to be sure i took the old seal to a seal specilist who assured me the old seal was wore but intact and was not mechanical.
so i hope this disaster helps other folk on here and no one on here has to go through a £600 fuck up like me.

I know i'm commited now (or should have been a long time ago) - mine usually earns it's keep but been off road for nearly 2 years undergoing mods (was never meant to be anything like this long of course) and when they're not helping you they do seem to become even bigger money pits
I can't afford not to get it back on road now

planning on running it for life :) (guess you could say i'm fairly committed to hunting elusive parts)

so the old Merc. 500/600/800 etc. stuff is still plentiful is it?
I was up for one until a few years ago a friend was offered £150 for his S56 by an exporter and having run a fair selection of british built twin-wheelers over the years - Mk1 Bedford CF and Mk2/3 Transit diesels, Essex powered A-Series etc., it was, I guess, the natural progression to get a Dodgem

they seem to have so many different bloody parts 3 or 4 different axels.
these fuckin seals there seems to be a 100 different ones used on the same axel.
what makes it worse is the min you say the word dodge its the end of the convesation.
every other truck you ask about they cannot do enuff.
