I posted on farcebook but here is what i put there for anyone else to see

Temp sensor is on top of the block front above water pump, green with a blue tracer is the correct wiring colour, might just be the spade connector that is corroded, if you do need a new sensor I think I got a new one.

Hi ... sorry for cutting in but this is kinda the same subject......Am I right in thinking there is a sensor in the dash to regulate voltage to the temp guage and fuel guage?  My fuel guage has always cutout at half a tank but now neither fuel or temp guage work at all... the guessing the distance left in the tank is frustrating but not knowing if the engine is overheating in traffic is much much worse!!

yeah having just worked on my fuel gauge might pay to renew the earth wire from sender to chassis, mine looked perfectly serviceable on first inspection, however turns out the ring to chassis connection had corrosion inside it,so i opened it out replaced the wire, crimped and soldiered it ,also if your the gauge has been reading half tank etc more likely a sender fault, take the positive wire off the sender and earth it, gauge should then read full with the ignition on,if so fault lies in the sender , regards mike
