Just driven my Dodge 50 with a Spencer Sherwood motorhome body back to mine and the best thing I can say about the brakes is that they give my anal sphincter and right leg a good workout! Do I really need to drive wearing lead diving boots? In the same vein is a vacuum of just under 25 KPa correct?

Since I got the bus so cheap I don't mind having to put a bit of work into it, although the 3.7 litre Perkins diesel seems a bit gutless. Is this normal?

Similarly the change in ratio between third and fourth (no fifth gear) is quite tall. Is this also correct?

Admittedly the side winds were strong today, but is it usual for the steering to be fairly vague and/or heavy?

Oh, and the speedo has a mind of it's own since it's not even close to accurate and even goes up & down as much with the rpm of the engine as much as it does by road speed!

Sorry about the number and variety of questions, but that's how it wobbles down the road.

sounds like a standard dodge motorhome to me lol

ok some answers (of sorts)

1. Brakes, the servo should be keeping you at pretty much 100% and not take long to build back up when used, it might be the brakes all need adjusting / bleeding, the servo might be leaking as to the pipework, faulty exhauster.......

2. Gutless: Yes with a 4.236 and 4 speed, yes.

3. change between 3rd and 4th is steep yes on the 4 speed dodge box

4. steering: might need steering box adjustment, is it PAS or not?, there might be play in the ball joints, has it got the same size tyres on all wheels, also check the steering UJ between steering column and steering box, make sure the uj's are tight and the rubber 'donut' is not split?

5. Speedo: this might be the cable or the drive on gearbox end, it might just need oiling of the cable, it might also not be fitted correctly and need tightening up behind the speedo itself :)

Did you post on the Facebook page too?

Brakes: Someone's coming over from Goole on Saturday to look at them.

Gutless: That's a damn pity as I wanted to pull a car transporter trailer behind the MH with a small convertible on it so that I'm completely mobile when I park up anywhere. I'm way past pissing about with mopeds/scooters/motorbikes - I fall off too often and my bones aren't what they used to be. Other than a replacement engine what are my options?

Gears: I suspected as much.

Steering: No PAS. Is the electric aftermarket setup worth the cost/effort and how easy (or otherwise) is it to fit? I'll check the other things in a day or several.

Speedo: I don't like oiling speedo cables as the oil can often find its way into the display and knackering it up.

as for electric pas it has been mentioned before not sure if it has been done / worked on a dodge 50, am sure someone did post about it, hopefully someone with a better memory will remember, i usually fit PAS to peoples vehicles :)
