HI, having difficulty starting my dodge 50 horse box (3.5 ton). Turns over for a long time before starting. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the cause. It is a perkins engine 1984 ish.thankss

hi sue its the engine heater plug if you take the cover off the inside were the ash tray is you will see a wire turn the key and test you have power on the wire
if not run another wire to it on a switch.
o its the wire with a spade connector

Hi and welcome to the forum Sue

could be any number of things , most likely would be that you are not operating the cold start correctly or the none return valve is allowing fuel to "drop back" to the tank whilst it is stood, then taking a while to build pressure back up again as you crank the engine to start.

I'm sure you'll find the answer somewhere here, maybe worth looking in the technical sections.
