Hi all

I'm in Bristol looking for a Dodge 50 camper, either already converted or suitable for conversion. I have the misfortune of having a post-97 licence so I need a 3.5 tonner (an S35? Do they exist?) or preferably an S45 that either has been or could be downrated to 3.5 tonnes. It's got to be a mark 2 cause I don't want a dinosaur, but welding/MOT/minor repairs are not a problem as long as I can pick it up and drive it away and it can get from wherever it is to Bristol. Turbo and power steering preferred obviously. I don't know if I can put my email on here but it's kaptaink@hotmail.com. Please let me know if you can help, I've never owned a Dodge 50 before and it's been a lifelong ambition but I finally know my way around an engine so the time is right.

Thanks for reading

Will

Re:Wanted: 3.5t MK2 Dodge 50 Panel Van - camper or for camper conversion

Hi,
FYI, see Karriers page http://www.dodge50.co.uk/downrating/downrating.html  for downrating info.

I think that you are going to be a bit tight for overall weight with a camper body on (still, probably no more than all the other people running modern 3.5 tonne campers).

My 6.2metre, 4.6 tonne camper can run at its lightest with empty water tanks etc at around 3.5T, Put water, gas & a medium sized motorbike on the back & its then 4.5T.

You could tow a small trailer (under 750KG) with some of your "heavy" stuff on it.

Having a camper conversion already done will save you a PACKET.   All "proper" camping/RV stuff tends to be silly prices e.g. £220 for an electric step or £600 for a 3-way fridge & so on......

Also, be it a Mk1 or Mk2, they are ALL "dinosaurs" (but they are our dinosaurs, lol).

Good luck with the search.

Rod

P.S.

Looks like Roger the Dodge might be still up for sale, it didn't reach its reserve on ebay.

Hi,      I,m not sure if  a MK II  S 35 was ever built in UK.   I think the S35 production line went to Turkey at the the time of MK IIs.           The Dodge also known as Desoto is still being manufactured today. Main variation is Truck cab drop sided. The sab itself is shaped  like a carboad box, but it has the Perkins Pfaser and 5 Spd Gearbox.    I suppose one could  buy a new S35 vehicle and replace cab with UK spec.     Dont forget Turkey only make LHD ,  but it has PAS as standard,     hope info helps   Lr exporter

The main production line went to China in 1994 you are right about the s35mk 2 never being made, what they did was just down rate a s46 on the production line, I have the seo notes about it, these vehicles in Turkey, are you sure they are 50 series under the cab?

Hi Karrier,     If  you examine  chassis variations in the parts book ,  notice the 3.5 Tonner has a beadstead style chassis, whilst all other mods have a  contoured chassis.          This bedstead looks like the turkish built  3,5 er  made  for single rear wheels.      I imagine the UK 3.5er also had single rear wheels.

Ah yes the S35 had a 5mm thick chassis and the others were 5.5 and also single rear wheels, the Desoto may well be something like this one then
