Hi to all.
Iam thinking of purchasing an rb44, one of the better models from lichfields or witham that should not require any repairs. But apart from servicing, running repairs due to use what other issues are there to consider.

I know the steering issues were sorted, but I have heard that some spares, like the brake servo's are no longer made, also brake shoes are rare. Can these parts be refurbished and by who !.

Are there any owners willing to share their experiences of running these vehicles.

I can and will to repair most things with a cuppa in my hand, and also my brother is a mechanical engineer/ toolmaker, etc etc so help at hand.

Any help would be appreciated, many thanks.

hi there yes parts are getting harder to find but so far we have managed to pretty much get what's needed when needed, you can get shoes relined and Servos rebuilt (past parts for rebuilt wheel cylinders etc) engine stuff can be got, Tyres are a bitch to get,

Many thanks for that, really usefully info. Do you know if the wheel rims can be changed to take a more common tyre size, also do you know about any running issues ie things that regularly break. The upshot of this is that I think the specification of the truck is good and like to drive a larger than a landrover utility vehicle.

Hi,    i had trouble obtaining the original  Gianetti  16 inch rims, so I gave up because of price and opted for the Unimog 20 inch rim fitted with 10  inch Tyres.         These are readily available in africa and on top offer a better fuel economy at a higher speed.     The rim 6/ stud pattern is the same, seems to be international universal.                 Anybody interested ,    I have a set of six spare from Germany which can de delivered to UK . !!       rgds    Lr exporter

High there, well I`m yer owner operator.  Ten years with the MOD RB & another 7 with MKII phaser 110 S46. So I think you may gather I didnt get all hateful towards RB`s listening to inexperienced "talkers with no proper experience"  Due to the fact that they had yet to wait years to read all that crap.
Its simple, If you are a reasonably capable mechanic they are pretty straightforward. I have done 25 thousand miles with it & maintained it. There was no Test Drive,No advice, I just weighed it up & got the thing paid for.
I doubt many squaddies have done the same, & it looks like whoever they had working on em didnt know much either..  They are a 20 year old truck  & even older design, Perhaps all the critics are just used to modern easy vehicles ??If you have a need for one ,they do the job. If you want modern brakes ......it doesnt have em.    Its up to you pal
   Enjoy !

Hi Tam 4x4,        Ive already tried that one by fitting a LR 101 wheel to RB 44.    It wont go,  The stud pattern is the same, but the hub is of smaller dimension,  and if milled out to fit, its not built to take the RB44 weight meaning dangerous.          In my dilemma, i changed  to Unimog tyres and wheels,    so now i have 3 spare ginetti rims for the rb44,       Can  send to UK  if required,  rgds   Lr exporter

The private messaging system works OK just don't delete any sent messages or the person who received the message will have their copy deleted too, don't ask me why this happens but itis a glitch they have never managed to bother rectifying
