Date Posted:13/03/2011 11:37:50Copy HTML Hi there all .
I'm a newby in need! I am in sunny Lincolnshire too. I dont have a 50 series but am looking for one. I need (want) one for my blacksmithing business, mainly for on-site welding. It needs to be all wheel drive for the winter work, carrying a permanently fitted diesel welder in the back, and associated equipment. maybe a small Hiab too. One of them military jobbies would be ideal, with side lockers. An RB44 I believe they are called. I don't mind having to work on one to get roadworthy, but wont have the time to restore one. Any leads would be muchly appreciated. I have various metalworking skills to be prostituted! And can reciprocate favours. BFN |

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:14/03/2011 12:41:11Copy HTML Howdy Jap ;-)
I must confess to pointing Jap in the direction of the forum after pursueding him that a RB44 would be ideal for his needs !!! He is very taken by my 50 series for what it is , and after seeing the 4x4 version agreed it would save him alot of work and me alot of texts to find one and not to build a truck from scratch :-) Being as he is a modest chap and wouldn't reference it himself , check out http://www.longdogforge.co.uk/ for some of the fantastic things he does !!! |

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:14/03/2011 12:03:53Copy HTML if you'd like a commercial bodied one i'll sell you mine. has a silenced box fitted where the gennie was fitted, though it is petrol engined this is easily converted to LPG,which i would do but i'm plowing in all of my cash into my business. it's a good truck and is in above the norm. condition. if you want more info let me know, greg saw the truck a t the last meet. It's a reluctant sale and consequently will only sell to someone who will keep it and use it. joe

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:14/03/2011 06:41:15Copy HTML Hi stoker, and thanks for responding. I would like to have a butchers at your truck if poss. blacksmiff@@hotmail.com.
It would certainly be kept and used if I bought it. Although the body would need to be changed in some way I would think. I look forward to a peek. Thanks. |

Everyone knows you pushed me into it, I hope you can sleep at night. |

Gotta go to bed. Hello Karrier, Thanks for that. I have made quite a few burners, mainly from gas bottles. Always different and completely unique. I have another on back burner. Its not quite finished yet, and will be needing a good rich home! (and a launch pad!! Bet you cant guess?) It will be featured on me web site when done. And here if its allowed. Cheers |

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:14/03/2011 08:44:53Copy HTML You are most welcome to try and flog your wares here cos they are so nice.
Just so you know and you might also be interested in the S75 dodge 50 4x4 (7500kgs GVW), a bit tougher and with better rear brakes than the RB44 ( which is 5700kgs GVW) with air assisted master cylinder and air handbrake, stronger rear axle and chassis. This is a friends (Syze on the forum) S75 crewcab which has a 8000LB front winch and a mini crane on the rear Not knocking the RB44 at all but you might want more weight capacity, I have a S46 (4600kgs) ex horse box and with my bottles, tools, mig, spares and bits and bobs I am over weight if i put my Gennie in it and it isn't a large box at all and I have removed a lot of the inner horsebox metalwork / stripped the load door down and a RB44 weighs more than my S46 so with a body on it you are looking at about 1500kgs you could carry before you are over weight I reckon. Just something to think about. Did I make any sense there?

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:15/03/2011 12:53:51Copy HTML Makes sense to me so I'll be sure to pursuede him ......
Not that he takes much bloomin pushing mind !!! The origional plan was to convert a standard LR to a forward control , with tools , welder , working platform etc etc it would have been way over the top wieght wise so I think this is definatley the way to go. As far as the RB vrs S75 thing goes , I honestly think it would be good to see the 2 motors in the flesh Jap ??? My impression of the RB was that of a quite compact truck with a good capacity to carry , if the S75 would be a better option then now is the time to find that out !!! not after buying the wrong motor ...... If the owners of either type would be willing to show us around them and give up the pro's and con's , then i rekon a few hours running around would be well spent my friend ;-) |

Re:Hello from a blacksmith Date Posted:17/03/2011 11:32:50Copy HTML Hi Fella`s , Thanks for adding the pics Greg That was I think in 2004 after I put some time into it. I have to say its not quite as shiney underneath now ! But could be !! I will sort some pics & e mail you Jap.
Hi Stoker, indeed it will be a sad occasion but I reckon I will still keep company on this Community with the Knowledge gained. I was one of the first Civvy users afterall. Not many squaddies have personally driven one 23,000 miles & Maintained it as well. ! Luckily I bought this one with 380 delivery miles on it ,Thankfully before the soldiers attempted to destroy it. Regards John PS Stoker ....I had to look up what the f*** a Pedicab was ???? You sure you can load all your walling stone & still room to sleep in one ??? I guess you`ll opt for a locking diff on it for those hard to get sites. |
