Just wanted to snoop about and pick some brains.
I'm an ex soldier who married a local Squaw and stayed here in Germany, I've been out over 20years so not up to pat on what's what with military vehicles.
I'm on the lookout for a RB44 to hopefully convert into an Overlander.
Thought about landies but with wife baggage and dogs they would not be big enough and I dont want to go up to a truck like a 4 tonner or similar.
The RB is just about the right size (I hope) so a few questions if someone would be kind enough to help out.
What is the fuel consumption like (mpg) and how big is the tank on an ex military one. How big is the rear load area, I've seen some with a box body if I was to get one how much head height is available.
Then the typical one for someone too lazy to search through what are the weak points to look out for and what is the truth about them having cheese for brakes.
Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,  I have owned & used one for bout 7 years , If you are enthusiastic & reasonable mechanic they are ok. Fuel consumption bout 20-22 at 55 mph. I`ve never measured fuel tank but approx 100 L.  (bit bigger than Dodge 50 85L)
Rear load area is 9ft. long, cant find my width dimensions.
The radio boxes are just that.  low headroom ok for the military enthusiast camping over show week end but I cant imagine much else. Heavy construction though.
As for searching through the weak points, I was a pioneer civvy buyer I went out & bought one & delt with it.  So much poor press but its what you make it.
