Ummm thats a new one, never heard anyone mention this before, I guess its a motor and drive gear, never thought of it either.
is this something you can buy off the shelf for other vehicles?

I had a look online and reckon you might be able to but there is not much room to fit one,

Most units are for small cars and might not be powerfull enough for something this big,
there is also a limit to the power you can transmit down the steering column safely.
most new 4x4 have the electrivmotor direct on the rack now.

The Corsa  B ones are fitted to many old cars, you need the aftermarket control box that the rally boys sell , I think the last one I got was about £30 of ebay, then its plug and play, very easy to fit and would fit under the dash .

A normal PAS setup would be better though.
